Okpebholo Approve Return of Schools to Missions

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the return of schools to missionary organizations in the state.
This decision follows a meeting between the Governor and the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Gabriel Dunia.
The state government will establish a committee to identify specific schools to be handed over to the missionary groups. Schools currently undergoing renovation by the state government will remain under its supervision until completion.
The return of schools comes decades after the civilian government took over Catholic primary and secondary schools in the 1970s.
The Catholic Diocese of Auchi had been appealing to previous administrations for the return of their institutions, but none had responded positively until now.
Bishop Dunia expressed satisfaction with the governor’s decision, which marks a significant step towards addressing long-standing grievances and potentially enhancing educational standards through faith-based initiatives.
The move is expected to improve the quality of education in Edo State by leveraging the expertise and resources of faith-based organizations.
