I Resigned to Enable Me Actively Campaign Against Tinubu in 2027, Says Ex-Aide

Aliyu Audu, former Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Public Affairs, has revealed that he resigned from his position to actively campaign against Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Audu’s resignation letter, dated June 8, 2025, cited concerns over the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) political trajectory and warned against the silencing of opposition voices.
Audu’s decision to resign stems from his refusal to be part of what he perceives as an agenda to reduce Nigeria to a one-party state. He emphasized that his resignation was not an act of rebellion but a matter of conscience, driven by his commitment to democratic values.
“Though I do not align with the PDP, I refuse to be used directly or indirectly as an instrument to reduce Nigeria to a one-party state. That would be a betrayal of both divine favor and democratic principle,” Audu stated.
Audu’s resignation comes on the heels of President Tinubu’s Democracy Day speech, where the president claimed to enjoy seeing the opposition in disarray.
Audu said this speech strengthened his resolve not to work for Tinubu in 2027.
“It confirmed it on one hand, and on the other hand, it strengthened my resolve to not work for him in 2027,” Audu said.
Audu’s resignation highlights the growing concerns about the state of democracy in Nigeria. His decision to resign and actively campaign against Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 underscores the importance of opposition voices in the country’s democratic process.
