FG Commences National Common Entrance for Technical, Vocational Education and Training

The Federal Government has commenced Nigeria’s inaugural National Common Entrance Examination for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Class 1, with a participation of 29,256 candidates nationwide across Federal and State Technical Colleges.

 

This announcement was made during a monitoring exercise on June 14, 2025, by the Federal Ministry of Education, signifying a significant advancement in the restructuring of technical education within the nation.

 

Dr. Muibat Adenike Olodo, Director of Technology and Science Education, represented by Mr. Kehinde Osinake, Deputy Director of Vocational Studies, stated that the initiative encompasses all Federal and 32 State Technical Colleges.

 

“The examination saw a total of 29,256 candidates across Federal and State Technical Colleges nationwide, with 22,995 specifically applying to Federal Colleges,” he noted.

 

She underscored the government’s objective to equip Nigerian youths with practical and industry-relevant skills to mitigate unemployment and transition the economy from a consumption-driven model to one driven by productivity.

 

Dr. Aminu Mohammed, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), characterized the entrance exam as a pivotal policy transformation.

 

“Approximately 30,000 JSS3 students participated nationwide,” he remarked.

 

He highlighted that candidates will be allocated to various vocational trades, such as electrical installation, tailoring, and solar maintenance, based on their examination scores and aptitude evaluations.

 

“Skills acquisition transcends mere paper qualifications and is essential to national economic growth,” Dr. Mohammed asserted.

 

He further mentioned that successful candidates would receive starter kits and be granted access to loans from the Bank of Industry to facilitate the establishment of small-scale enterprises or secure employment.
