Togo’s Mawouli Triumphs at Lagos Golf Classic, Carts Home ₦10.2 Million Prize

Togolese golfer, Ayao Mawouli has emerged victorious at the 3rd edition of the eTranzact Golf Classic, held at the prestigious Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate in Lagos.
The tournament, which is part of the Professional Golfers’ Development (PGD) Tour, drew participation from 88 professional players across the African continent.
Mawouli clinched the title with an impressive two-round total of 140, scoring 72 on the first day and 68 on the second.
Heavy rainfall disrupted the final day of play, forcing tournament officials to cancel the third and final round. Citing PGD Tour rules, the competition was concluded based on the 36-hole results, with Mawouli declared champion.
The win earned him a grand prize of ₦10.2 million, a significant boost to his professional career and a proud moment for Togo’s growing presence in African golf.
Former Nigerian number one, Kamalu Bako came in second, taking home ₦6 million, while Ivory Coast’s Richard Kouakou finished third.
In the women’s category, Rukayat Bola Mustapha of Ikoyi Club 1938 and Blessing Abdul of St Mark Golf Club, Otukpo, shared the top spot. Both ladies finished with identical scores of 158 (+14), reflecting a competitive showing in the growing field of African women’s golf.
The eTranzact Golf Classic, now in its third year, has become a crucial platform for nurturing and showcasing golfing talent from across the continent. Managing Director of eTranzact, Niyi Toluwalope, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding the tournament and supporting the growth of professional golf in Africa.
