Nigeria Regaining Global Position Under Tinubu, Says Information Minister

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says the country is steadily regaining international respect under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing bold reforms and renewed global engagement.

In an interview with Forbes Africa published ahead of Democracy Day, the minister noted that Nigeria’s image is being rebuilt through strategic economic decisions and a consistent leadership vision that is drawing international confidence back to the country.

“President Tinubu has taken tough decisions that many before him avoided,” Idris stated. “The removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates are foundational reforms that have restored credibility to our economic system.”

According to the minister, the savings from the fuel subsidy removal estimated in the trillions of naira are now being directed into infrastructure projects across the nation, including the construction and rehabilitation of over 1,700 kilometers of federal highways.

He also pointed to positive economic indicators, referencing a recent World Bank report that showed Nigeria recording its highest growth in over a decade. “We are seeing progress.

The reforms are yielding results, and Nigeria is now being taken seriously again by the international community,” Idris said.

He explained that while the short-term pain from these policies is real, the long-term benefits would far outweigh them.

“The economy is like an aircraft it takes a lot of power to lift off, but once it’s in the air, it becomes smoother. That is where Nigeria is heading,” he added.

Idris urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and patient, stressing that the President is committed to building a future where the country is both respected abroad and prosperous at home.
