I Was Governor When PDP Tried to Turn Nigeria to One Party State, Failed

President Bola Tinubu addressed the National Assembly, recalling his experience as a progressive governor in 2003 when the ruling party attempted to dominate the nation by suppressing opposition.

He noted that despite being one of the few progressive governors standing, many of his allies were induced into defeat.

Tinubu rhetorically asked about the current status of those who had boasted of ruling Nigeria for half a century or more, implying that their fortunes had significantly waned.

This statement was part of his address to the joint sitting of the NASS.

The event was initially reported to commemorate 25 years of uninterrupted democracy and legislative practice in Nigeria, with Tinubu scheduled to speak on the state of the nation and commission the NASS Library.

However, the Presidency later denied reports of Tinubu addressing the joint session, citing unauthorized planning.

Despite the confusion, Tinubu did address the NASS, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to build a nation for future generations. He also mentioned forthcoming initiatives.
