Liverpool Buys Florian Wirtz in £116Million Transfer Deal

Liverpool Football Club has finalized a sensational £116 million agreement to sign German attacking midfielder, Florian Wirtz from Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen.

The deal consists of a £100 million base transfer fee, with an additional £16 million tied to performance-related add-ons.

The move, once officially completed, is poised to become the most expensive signing in British football history, surpassing the £115 million fee paid by Chelsea for Moisés Caicedo in 2023.

Wirtz, 22, has been one of Europe’s brightest young talents, playing a pivotal role in Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten 2024/25 Bundesliga title-winning campaign.

The midfielder recorded an impressive 18 goals and 19 assists across all competitions last season, earning him the Bundesliga Player of the Year award and attracting interest from top clubs including Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich.

However, Wirtz opted for Liverpool, drawn by the club’s vision under new manager Arne Slot, who officially succeeded Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.

Sources suggest the player has agreed on personal terms and is expected to complete his medical in the coming days.

Liverpool’s midfield has been in transition since the exit of veterans like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, and Wirtz’s arrival is viewed as a major coup.

His creativity, vision, and technical quality are expected to bring new life to the Reds’ midfield as the club targets a return to domestic and European glory.
