Bwala Highlights Significant Strides in Democracy

Presidential Spokesperson Dr. Daniel Bwala has highlighted significant strides in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Speaking on the TVC Town Square series, Bwala emphasized that democracy is a continuous struggle requiring active participation from citizens, a responsible press, and accountable governance.

Citing the United States as an example, Bwala noted that even established democracies face challenges.

He referenced the 2020 insurrection in the US, where the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate were affected, highlighting the fragility of democracy.

Comparing Nigeria’s democratic progress to that of the US, Bwala pointed out that despite security challenges, Nigeria has not resorted to deploying armed forces in cities, unlike some parts of the US where national guards are visible.

He emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to preserving lives and property, investing in security, and engaging citizens in the democratic process.

Bwala also highlighted Nigeria’s progress in conducting elections and upholding democratic fundamentals, acknowledging weaknesses and areas for improvement.

He stressed the importance of transparency and accountability, citing the country’s determination to report its own peculiarities and truth.

Overall, Bwala’s remarks underscored Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its democratic foundations, despite challenges and imperfections.
