Mokwa Floodwaters May Have Come from Outside Nigeria, Says Bago

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has revealed that the devastating floodwaters that ravaged Mokwa Local Government Area, claiming nearly 200 lives, may have originated from outside Nigeria, possibly from Niger Republic or other parts of Africa.
The governor made this statement during a condolence visit from Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.
According to Bago, the state’s dams are overflowing, and it’s unclear where the excess water is coming from. “Unlike other years, after the first rain, all our dams are so full we don’t even know where the waters are coming from, whether there is an overflow from Niger Republic or other parts of Africa,” he said.
Bago disclosed that the state government is already working to relocate people living in flood-prone areas to safer locations.
He also called on the Federal Government to collaborate with subnational governments to address the challenges posed by climate change and severe rainfall.
The governor emphasized the need for Nigerians to understand the reality of climate change and its impact on the environment.
He urged the Federal Government to continue working with states to mitigate the effects of climate-related disasters.
