Fubara’s Sins Irredeemable, APC Defection Won’t Save Him, Says Tony Okocha

Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Tony Okocha, has declared that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s alleged infractions cannot be absolved by defecting to the APC.
Speaking at a press conference at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, Okocha emphasized that Fubara’s sins are too severe to be forgiven simply by joining the party.
According to Okocha, Fubara’s suspension and ongoing impeachment proceedings have nothing to do with politics, but rather his alleged misdeeds against the people of Rivers State, as ruled by the Supreme Court.
He stressed that joining the APC wouldn’t automatically grant Fubara immunity from facing the law.
Okocha highlighted that Fubara would need to follow the proper procedures to join the APC, starting from his ward, if he’s genuinely interested in defecting.
“The APC is not a dumping ground for politicians who violate the law and seek refuge through political maneuvering,” Okocha stated.
When asked about potential reconciliation between Fubara and stakeholders, Okocha revealed that no such efforts are ongoing. Instead, he advised Fubara to seek genuine reconciliation with the people of Rivers State.
The APC chairman also downplayed the significance of Fubara’s meetings with President Bola Tinubu, stating that many leaders meet with the president without implying any political movement or endorsement.
Okocha reiterated that Fubara’s impeachment proceedings are still active, making it unlikely for him to find solace in joining the APC.
“The Supreme Court judgment and Assembly actions remain hanging over him like a sword of Damocles,” he warned.
