Family of Deceased Patient Protests at LUTH, Accuses Hospital of Insensitivity

A distraught family staged a protest at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after the hospital allegedly refused to release the body of their loved one, Qudus, due to an outstanding bill of N1.9 million.

The family claims that they spent approximately N200,000 daily on medication, milk, and other expenses during Qudus’ 15-day stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to the family, Qudus was initially admitted for surgery to remove a brain tumor but was transferred to the ICU, where his condition deteriorated.

Despite the family’s compliance with the hospital’s requests for payment, they were shocked by the demand for N1.9 million to release Qudus’ body after his death.

The family, who are Muslims, expressed outrage and grief, accusing the hospital of insensitivity and heartlessness.

They demanded that the hospital release Qudus’ body, citing the need for a prompt burial in accordance with Islamic customs.

Qudus had passed away on June 8, and the family feels that the hospital’s actions are unacceptable.
