2027: Wike, Stakeholders’ Position Aligns with PDP’s Stand, Says Bature
As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Umar Bature, has declared that the position of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, along with other key stakeholders, align fully with the official stance of the party.
Bature made the statement during a press briefing at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja on Monday, where he addressed growing speculation about internal disagreements within the party.
He emphasized that contrary to widespread media reports, there is no division between Wike and the national leadership of the party.
“There is no ambiguity in our direction as a party. The views and position of Wike and many of our senior stakeholders are not only in sync with the PDP’s central agenda for 2027, but they are also reinforcing our internal democracy and collective strategy,” Bature said.
He noted that the PDP has been engaging in extensive consultations with critical stakeholders across the country in preparation for the 2027 elections.
According to him, these interactions have helped strengthen internal cohesion and improve the party’s organizational structure.
Bature dismissed insinuations that Wike’s influence might derail the party’s plans or create divisions, particularly in light of his role in the aftermath of the 2023 elections.
He described such views as misinformed, insisting that political disagreement does not amount to disloyalty or sabotage.
“Wike has always been a vocal and active stakeholder in the PDP. Disagreements do not equate to disloyalty. What we have now is a clearer sense of direction, born out of continuous dialogue and internal reconciliation,” Bature said.
The PDP organising secretary further hinted that the party is already laying the groundwork for a strong showing in 2027.
He stated that PDP leaders are focused on building a broad-based national strategy that reflects the interests of Nigerians and the core values of the party.
“We are not waiting for the election year to start preparations. 2027 begins now. The PDP is building a robust grassroots network and investing in consensus-building across all zones,” Bature said.
On Wike’s continued engagement with the party despite serving in a different political arrangement after 2023, Bature noted that his involvement is consistent with pragmatic politics and shows a commitment to the party’s long-term interest.
“What Wike and other stakeholders are doing is what mature politicians should do — prioritize the interest of the party and the country above personal ambitions,” he stated.
He added that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will soon meet to finalize critical elements of the PDP’s roadmap toward 2027, including zoning decisions, reconciliation mechanisms, and internal elections.
Bature concluded by urging party members to stay focused and united, emphasizing that the PDP is more stable today than it has been in recent years.
He said the party is learning from its past and evolving into a more organized and responsive political platform.
“The PDP is more united today than it has been in recent years. We have learned from the past, and we are building a forward-looking party that Nigerians can believe in again,” he said.
