Security Forces Liberate 11 Hostages in Katsina

The Katsina Police Command announced that a collaborative security team successfully freed 11 individuals who had been abducted by bandits in Danmusa Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Monday, Abubakar Aliyu, the police spokesperson in Katsina, reported that the hostages were liberated on June 8 at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Aliyu detailed that the rescue operation involved police officers, troops of the Nigerian Army, agents of the Department of State Services (DSS), members of the community watch corps, and vigilantes.

He noted that the operatives were conducting a routine patrol along the Danmusa to Mara Dangeza village road in Danmusa LGA when they encountered the bandits.

“The team came upon a group of armed bandits attempting to abscond with their captives seized from various locations within the state, prompting a gunfight,” the statement reads.

“This confrontation culminated in the successful liberation of the 11 hostages, consisting of nine females and two males.

“The bandits retreated from the scene due to superior tactics and firepower.”

Aliyu stated that the victims had been kidnapped from Damawa village in Kankara LGA, Bakam in Musawa, and Danmusa town.

He added that Bello Shehu, the state’s commissioner of police, praised the operatives for their valour.

He affirmed the commissioner’s commitment to collaborating with allied security agencies to combat the threat in the state.

He encouraged the public to continue supporting the command’s efforts, as well as those of other security agencies, by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
