Los Angeles Erupts in Protest over Immigration Raids
Thousands of protesters flooded the streets of Los Angeles on Monday in response to large-scale immigration raids reportedly linked to directives from President Donald Trump.
The raids, which targeted undocumented immigrants in Latino-majority neighborhoods, triggered immediate unrest in multiple parts of the city.
Demonstrators blocked intersections, burned vehicles, and clashed with heavily armed law enforcement officers.
Palestinian and Mexican flags were waved as chants of solidarity echoed through downtown. Officials say at least 40 people were arrested, and several buildings were vandalized.
Tensions escalated after unconfirmed reports suggested that federal troops had been deployed to assist immigration enforcement.
Local leaders and civil rights organizations condemned the move as authoritarian and inflammatory.
“This is a siege on our communities,” said one protester, calling for a city-wide shutdown.
California authorities have not confirmed federal involvement, but Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the raids as “reckless” and warned of further escalation.
The protests are expected to continue through the week as activists organize nationwide demonstrations in solidarity with immigrant communities and against militarized federal intervention.
