I’m Committed to Supporting Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Assures Alex Otti

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reiterated his commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies.
Speaking during a visit by former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Chris Adighije to his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Otti praised President Tinubu’s courage in taking difficult but necessary decisions to fix Nigeria’s economy.
According to Otti, the removal of fuel subsidies was long overdue, and he commended the President for having the courage to take the decision.
“We have behaved in an irresponsible manner for a very long time, and the correction would be tough, difficult, and painful. But if we don’t lose faith, we will eventually get it right,” he said.
Otti also took a swipe at those already talking about the 2027 elections, saying that it is premature and that nobody can guarantee what the future holds.
“Today is certain; tomorrow is a promise. Next tomorrow is gambling. Let us talk about today; when tomorrow comes, and we are lucky to be part of it, we can hold the discussion,” he said.
The Governor thanked Senator Kalu for his past contributions to the development of Abia State, particularly in the area of road construction. He said that his administration has hit the reset button and is working to improve the state’s infrastructure, without dwelling on past mistakes.
Senator Kalu, who described Otti as his friend and brother, commended the Governor for his achievements in office, particularly in the area of road construction. He said that the road from Igbere to Umuahia, which was previously in a state of disrepair, is now smooth and has reduced travel time from three hours to less than an hour.
Kalu urged Otti to continue supporting President Tinubu, saying that it is in the best interest of the state and the country.
He also wished the Governor and his family well, saying that he would continue to visit them anytime he is in the state.
Senator Adighije, who also spoke during the visit, commended Governor Otti’s performance and said that he is proud to be an Abian.
He joined Senator Kalu in appealing to the Governor to support President Tinubu, saying that it is not about partisan politics but the progress of the state.
Otti also said that he has directed the Commissioner for Works to devise a plan to light up the Umuahia-Ohafia axis, saying that he wants the state’s economy to operate like Lagos and Abuja, where people hardly sleep.
“We want the economy to operate 24/7, and we are working to make that happen,” he said.
