Judge Denies DDG’s Request to Block Halle Bailey from Traveling Abroad with Their Son

A Los Angeles judge has denied an emergency motion filed by rapper and YouTuber DDG seeking to prevent his former partner, actress and singer Halle Bailey, from leaving the country with their 17-month-old son, Halo. The court also dismissed DDG’s request for a temporary restraining order against Bailey, marking a pivotal moment in their ongoing custody battle.
The former couple, who began dating in 2022 and publicly separated in 2024, have been embroiled in a tense legal dispute over the custody of their son. In May 2025, Halle Bailey was granted temporary legal and physical custody of Halo after submitting court filings that included allegations of emotional and physical abuse by DDG.
At that time, a temporary restraining order was issued requiring DDG to stay at least 100 yards away from both Bailey and Halo. That order expired on June 4, the same day the judge denied his emergency motion and restraining order application.
DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., filed the emergency motion citing concerns that Bailey was a potential “risk to both herself and their child.” In his petition, he alleged that Bailey had made threats of self-harm, which he argued posed an emotional and psychological danger to Halo.
The court, however, found insufficient grounds for either preventing Bailey from traveling or issuing a restraining order. The judge ruled that there was no legal basis to interfere with her travel plans, especially since she currently has primary custody and no direct evidence supported the claim that the trip would endanger the child.
Following the ruling, Halle Bailey is now permitted to move forward with her planned international trip to Italy, where she is reportedly set to work on a new professional project. While the court’s decision is a temporary win for Bailey, it does not finalize custody arrangements.
Bailey has also filed additional legal documents requesting that DDG’s visitation rights be limited to supervised six-hour weekly visits within Los Angeles County and is seeking to block him from taking their son outside of that jurisdiction.
The next hearing in the custody case is scheduled for June 24, 2025. Both parties are expected to present further arguments and evidence regarding custody, visitation terms, and travel restrictions. Legal analysts suggest the outcome could significantly shape the long-term parenting arrangement between the two celebrities.
Though the custody battle has drawn widespread public attention, both Bailey and DDG have maintained a relatively low profile on social media since the legal filings became public. However, Bailey’s legal team has expressed confidence in the court’s ruling and emphasized her focus on ensuring a “safe and loving environment” for Halo.
“This decision reaffirms Halle’s right to live her life and work abroad without undue interference while continuing to prioritize her son’s wellbeing,” a source close to Bailey’s legal team told People magazine.
