Alia Accuses Politicians, National Assembly Members of Sponsoring Genocide in Benue

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has accused serving politicians in the National Assembly of being behind the recent surge in violent attacks across the state.

According to Governor Alia, these politicians are not only instigating the attacks but also harbouring and financing the terrorists.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Governor Alia expressed his distress over the carnage in his state, stating that Benue is “under siege” and that the attacks are “directed, planned, and executed” with a high level of accuracy.

He revealed that intelligence reports have shown that around 60-65% of the attacks are planned and executed with precision.

The governor emphasized that the attacks are no longer just a clash between farmers and herders, but rather a form of terrorism carried out by specialized killers.

“For some reason, none of them is ever caught, they come in the thick of the night, hit, run and nobody sees a trace. So, it is some terrorism that is eating us up,” he said.

Governor Alia accused some politicians in Abuja of sponsoring the attacks, revealing that an interim report from a judicial panel he set up had indicted several big names.

The panel’s report is expected to be finalized next week, after which Alia vowed to take up the matter seriously.

“We set up a judicial panel to sort out for us why we kept having attacks from within and from without and we have received an interim report. Between Tuesday and Wednesday next week, I am going to get a full report from the panel.

“It is very unsettling because some politicians who are very functional and are in the National Assembly and are in Abuja are the architects and arrowheads of not just instigating but harbouring and keeping these people, keeping them in the bushes and taking care of all their bills and buying all the gadgets for them,” he said.

The governor emphasized his commitment to protecting the lives of Benue people, stating that it is his right to do so.

“If they do not like the lives of the people and are fighting for their own political position, I think I am serving the interest of the common masses and it is my right to protect them,” he said.

The accusation by Governor Alia has sent shockwaves across the country, with many calling for immediate action to be taken against those responsible for the terrorist attacks.

The Nigerian government has yet to respond to the allegations, but the situation in Benue State remains tense and uncertain.

In recent weeks, Benue State and other North Central States have witnessed a surge in brutal attacks, with several local government areas experiencing violent onslaughts that have claimed numerous lives.

The attacks have been attributed to various factors, including ethnic conflicts and banditry, but Governor Alia’s revelation has shed new light on the possible involvement of politicians in the violence.

As the situation continues to unfold, Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the final report from the judicial panel and the actions that Governor Alia and the Nigerian government will take to address the allegations and bring those responsible to justice.
