Tension as Fulani Herdsmen, Kpowi Village Farmers Clash, Many Injured

A tragic incident has resulted in the death of one individual and numerous injuries following a confrontation between herders and farmers in Kpowi village, located in the Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.

The altercation, occurring around 4:30 pm on June 2, reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over alleged encroachment on farmland and the destruction of crops—a conflict that escalated into a violent clash between the Fulani and Gbagyi communities.

As reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism publication, six Fulani residents, identified as Ahmadu Bature, Dauda Bello, Haruna Umaru, Shuaibu Bature, Bature Bello, and Safiya Auta, suffered varying degrees of injuries.

Additionally, four Gbagyi individuals, identified as Yusuf Pada, Pius Pada, Dantala Yusuf, and Joshua Mai’anguwa, were injured during the altercation.

The injured were transported to the General Hospital in Kaffin-Koro for medical treatment, but tragically, Ahmadu Bature was pronounced dead upon admission.

The situation has since been stabilized following the intervention of security forces, who have summoned leaders from both communities to engage in a peace dialogue.
