INEC Releases Final Candidate List in Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially unveiled the final list of contestants for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, scheduled to take place on November 8, 2025.
This development comes after the completion of the candidate substitution process and verification of personal particulars submitted by participating political parties.
According to Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, a total of 16 political parties successfully met the submission deadline of May 12, 2025, and will be participating in the election.
The parties include Accord, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress, All Progressives Congress, Action Peoples Party, Boot Party, Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, National Rescue Movement, and Zenith Labour Party, among others.
Notably, the African Democratic Congress conducted a fresh primary election to replace its candidate, while four parties – Accord, African Action Congress, Labour Party, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party – replaced their deputy governorship candidates. The age range of the governorship candidates is between 36 and 71 years.
INEC has also announced that the official campaign period will commence on June 11, 2025, and will conclude at midnight on November 6, 2025.
The commission has cautioned political parties and their supporters to adhere to campaign regulations, including the prohibition of hate speech, physical attacks, and destruction of opponents’ materials.
The electoral body has reminded parties that they must provide equal access to public facilities for advertising and events, and that the use of incumbency for electoral advantage is strictly forbidden.
As stated by Olumekun, “No party has nominated a person with a disability as a candidate,” and six parties – Accord, All Progressives Congress, Action Peoples Party, Boot Party, Labour Party, and Zenith Labour Party – have fielded female running mates.
