Achieving Stable Power is My Ambition, Restates Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has asserted that achieving a stable power supply remains an unwavering ambition under his administration.
Tinubu made these remarks on Wednesday while inaugurating the 180-megawatt (MW) Afam II power plant in Rivers State, completed by Sahara Power Group (SPG) in partnership with Crescendough Nigeria Limited (CNL).
Addressing the event virtually, the president hailed the project as a “significant accomplishment born from the industrious Nigerian spirit.”
He stated that the completion of the power plant strengthens the capacity “we possess to surmount our challenges – through collaboration, perseverance, and renewed hope.”
The president lauded the Rivers government for its vision and facilitation of the project in the pursuit of energy sustainability in Nigeria.
“I equally commend the private sector partners—Sahara Power Group, First Independent Power Limited, and Crescendough Nigeria Limited for their investments and expertise. You have transformed this grand vision into reality. Nigeria salutes you,” he added.
Tinubu noted that the 180MW added to the national grid through this project will spur and propel economic development.
“Let me emphasize that under my administration, achieving stable power remains an unwavering goal. We will continue to implement policies that safeguard investments and prioritize ease of doing business,” he declared.
Also speaking, Bayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, remarked that the project represents a significant milestone.
“Sahara Energy’s investment in Afam II is a testament to the fruitful collaboration between public reforms and the private sector and stands as a beacon of progress and innovation in our nation’s quest for energy security,” he stated.
Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), indicated that his ministry would collaborate with the power ministry to address gas challenges and enhance power sustainability in Nigeria.
Kola Adesina, Group Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, highlighted the company’s nearly 30-year role as a pivotal player in Africa’s energy and infrastructure sector, utilizing collaboration to deliver sustainable power solutions.
“This milestone for us transcends the 180MW of additional power; we are celebrating impact, transformed lives, and the privilege we have as an organization to responsibly bring energy to life,” he said.
Describing electricity as the backbone of modern economies, Adesina affirmed Sahara Group’s commitment to leading efforts for reliable, uninterrupted power through strategic investments, operational excellence, and partnerships.
