Buratai Assures Security Will Improve Significantly in Next 2 Years Under Tinubu

In a recent interview at the 2025 VON Forum in Abuja, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai (Rtd), expressed optimism that the security situation in Nigeria will significantly improve within the next two years under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
According to Buratai, every country faces unique challenges, including Western nations, and Nigeria is no exception.
However, he believes that the lessons learned from recent security challenges will inform a more effective approach to addressing insecurity in the country.
“Insecurity is not something you can wish away overnight,” Buratai said. “It will not disappear, just like other forms of crimes like rape, armed robbery, and pickpocketing. These are societal ills that will continue to exist as long as human beings exist. So, insecurity is something you continue to handle as they arise,” he said.
The former Army Chief emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders, including federal agencies, state and local governments, and citizens, to achieve improved security.
He also highlighted the need for institutional capacity building and manpower development in the armed forces and other security agencies.
Buratai noted that national security policies and national defence policies are in place, but their effective implementation is crucial.
“When executing or implementing these policies, there is a need for coordination and working with others to achieve more,” he said.
The 2025 VON Forum, which brought together stakeholders from various sectors, provided a platform for discussions on citizen engagement and its role in enhancing national security.
Buratai’s comments suggest that the forum’s theme is timely and relevant, as the country seeks to address its security challenges.
With President Tinubu’s administration committed to improving security, Buratai’s prediction of a significant improvement in the next two years offers a glimmer of hope for Nigerians.
As the country continues to grapple with insecurity, the former Army Chief’s emphasis on collaboration, capacity building, and effective policy implementation serves as a reminder that a collective effort is required to achieve lasting peace and stability.
