I Will Lead the Charge for Tinubu’s Re-election in 2027 from PDP, Wike Boasts

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, despite being a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike, a former Rivers State governor, made this declaration during a recent media engagement in Abuja, stating that his allegiance would lie with President Tinubu, rather than the PDP’s presidential candidate.
This move is seen as a continuation of his previous support for President Tinubu during the last election, which sparked controversy within the PDP.
The relationship between Wike and the PDP leadership has been strained since his defeat in the party’s 2022 presidential primary.
He was also overlooked as a running mate to Atiku, with the position going to Ifeanyi Okowa, the former governor of Delta State.
This led to Wike and a group of dissenting governors, known as the G5, demanding the resignation of then-PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu.
Wike’s decision to back President Tinubu ultimately earned him a position in the president’s cabinet as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
He is now predicting a significant shift in support for President Tinubu in the Federal Capital Territory, where the president previously secured less than 10% of the vote.
