Gombe State Receives Donation to Support Inmate Rehabilitation

In a bid to empower inmates with valuable skills, the Chief Judge of Gombe State, Halima Mohammed, has donated a substantial amount of equipment and materials to six correctional facilities across the state.

The donation, valued at approximately N2 million, includes essential items such as chemicals for producing petroleum jelly, detergents, and soap, as well as materials for crafting caps and hair clippers.

The recipients of this generous donation include correctional centers in Gombe, Billiri, Cham, Bajoga, Tula, and Nafada. According to Saleh Aliyu, Secretary of the Gombe State Criminal Justice and Inquiry Committee, the primary objective of this initiative is to equip inmates with marketable skills, enabling them to become self-sufficient upon their release.

Chief Judge Mohammed emphasized the importance of providing inmates with constructive activities, stating that this initiative was inspired by a recent visit to the correctional facilities.

She urged the authorities to ensure that the donated items are distributed fairly among the deserving inmates.

Barrister Abubakar Jungudu, Director of Public Prosecution, praised the Chief Judge’s kindness, revealing that she had personally procured the donated items. He noted that the Chief Judge’s goal is to provide inmates with valuable skills, which will ultimately benefit both the individuals and society as a whole.

Barrister Haruna Gelengu, Director Magistrate, expressed his optimism that the donated items will have a profound impact on the lives of the inmates, facilitating their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. He emphasized the need for officials to ensure that the items are utilized judiciously.

Controller of Corrections, Salihu Abdullahi, represented by Deputy Victor Odafen, lauded the Chief Judge’s efforts and assured her that the donated items will be put to good use. He guaranteed that the correctional facilities will maintain accountability and strive to generate profits, creating a positive multiplier effect.
