Gunmen Abduct Travellers in Benue Community

Unidentified assailants, believed to be herdsmen, reportedly launched an assault and abducted travelers along the Oweto-Apa-Adoka-Otukpo thoroughfare in Benue State.

The attack transpired on Friday evening at a location between Asaba and Olojo.

Numerous truck drivers and other travelers journeying from Otukpo to Oweto and vice versa were reportedly seized, while others met with fatal consequences.

An eyewitness, a commercial motorcyclist commonly referred to as an Okada rider, who was en route to Agatu carrying a casket, was slain, leaving his motorcycle and the casket abandoned on the road alongside other deserted trucks.

In a conversation with the DAILY POST, John Ikwulono, a former Vice Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State, corroborated the occurrence, stating that the precise number of casualties remains undetermined.

“Aside from the individual found deceased by the roadside, we are currently unaware of the total number of casualties. Gunfire was indiscriminate; I suspect it was intended to thwart those attempting to flee,” he remarked.

Attempts to contact the Benue State Police spokesperson, Catherine Anene, were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to calls at the time this report was compiled.
