Buratai Extols Tinubu on Handling of Nigeria’s Problems

Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), extolled President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its audacious approach to addressing Nigeria’s economic dilemmas.
He characterized the government’s resolute policy direction as a “necessary departure” from the reform tactics employed by previous administrations.
Buratai delivered these observations during a commemorative lecture in Abuja, celebrating the 60th birthday of esteemed Nigerian politician and statesman, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.
Reflecting on his enduring association with Amaechi, which commenced in 2011 when Amaechi held the office of Governor of Rivers State, Buratai portrayed him as a leader profoundly committed to security and political advancement.
He further underscored Amaechi’s performance during the 2022 APC presidential primaries, acknowledging his sustained significance and leadership potential within Nigeria’s political arena.
“Rotimi Amaechi embodies a leader who prioritizes security, a trait indispensable for Nigeria’s stability.” He lauded Amaechi’s proactive involvement in national affairs and his pivotal role in shaping the country’s future.
Addressing economic reforms, Buratai critiqued the strategies of past administrations—from the Structural Adjustment Programs of Ibrahim Babangida to the subsidy regimes under Presidents Shagari, Obasanjo, Jonathan, and Buhari—which, in his view, exacerbated poverty among Nigerians.
Conversely, he commended the Tinubu administration’s bold and comprehensive economic policies as a resolute effort to tackle enduring socio-economic challenges.
“These radical measures signify a decisive shift from the gradual suffering of the past. They embody a readiness to confront our issues directly, even if the repercussions are immediate and significant,” he asserted.
Buratai, however, acknowledged the criticisms surrounding the perceived insensitivity of certain government policies, particularly with regard to poverty and insecurity. Nonetheless, he expressed optimism that the latter half of the Tinubu administration might deliver tangible advancements.
He concluded by underscoring the necessity for resilience and national cohesion, urging Nigerians to support the government’s reform agenda to attain enduring security and economic prosperity.
The event was graced by distinguished political figures, security experts, and members of Nigeria’s elite, all of whom paid homage to Amaechi’s contributions to national development and leadership.
