Tragedy Averted in Ogbomosho as 45,000 Liter Tanker Crashes into Pit

Tragedy was averted in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, after a fuel tanker carrying 45,000 litres of petrol careened off the road and crashed into a pit.

The incident, which occurred on Friday at the Ayanyan area along the Ogbomoso/Ilorin Expressway, raised concerns about a potential blaze.

According to Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, emergency responders received a distress call at 12:30 p.m. and swiftly dispatched a team to the scene. Led by PFS11 Oluwaleye, the firefighters arrived to find the overturned tanker, posing a significant hazard.

Maroof Akinwande explained that the tanker, with registration number MAG 20 XB (Borno), had lost control and veered into the pit. Fortunately, the fire service team was able to contain the situation by using a foam chemical compound to neutralize the risk of ignition.

Thanks to the prompt response of the firefighters, no lives were lost, and valuable properties were saved. The incident was also attended by CFS Awoyemi Seyi, as well as teams from the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who provided security and traffic control.

Alfa Kabiru Aderibigbe was credited with reporting the incident, which helped facilitate the swift response.
