Okpebholo Presents 17 SUVs to LG Chairman in Edo State

Governor Monday Okpebholo has presented 17 brand-new 2025 model SUVs to local government chairmen in Edo State.
The presentation ceremony, which took place on Saturday in Benin, was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, and other top government officials.
According to Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Okpebholo emphasized that his administration is committed to allowing local governments to drive development at the grassroots level without constraints. He criticized the previous administration for sidelining local governments, stating that his government recognizes and empowers council chairmen with the necessary tools to function effectively.
The governor expressed gratitude to God for enabling the chairmen to enjoy brand new vehicles, describing it as a sign of progress in Edo State.
He noted that the new development is unfolding under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and expressed confidence that Edo State would soon rival cities like Lagos and Abuja in terms of growth.
Okpebholo, however, warned that the SUVs are not for personal use but strictly for public service, and vowed to monitor their use across the local governments.
He also assured that council funds are untouched by the state and that performance would be measured based on visible outcomes aligned with financial allocations.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Lucky Eseigbe, praised Governor Okpebholo for upholding local government autonomy and ensuring accountability and transparency in council operations.
Eseigbe noted the positive impact of the autonomy, highlighting new infrastructure such as classrooms, roads, and healthcare centers across the 18 local government areas.
This is the first time in Edo State’s history that brand new SUVs, 2025 model, have been purchased for all local government chairmen, according to Eseigbe.
The move is seen as a significant step towards empowering local governments and enhancing service delivery at the grassroots level.
The presentation of the SUVs is part of Governor Okpebholo’s efforts to strengthen local government administration and promote development in Edo State. With the new vehicles, local government chairmen are expected to be more effective in delivering services to their constituents and driving growth in their respective areas.
As Edo State continues to make progress under the leadership of Governor Okpebholo, the people of the state can expect to see more initiatives aimed at promoting development and improving the quality of life for all citizens.
