Kebbi Youths Empowered with Sewing Machines to Promote Self-Reliance

In a bid to reduce unemployment and foster self-reliance among young Nigerians, hundreds of youths across Kebbi State have received sewing machines and other vocational tools through multiple empowerment programs backed by political leaders and community foundations.

One such initiative, tagged “The Bagudu Boys Empowerment Project,” recently saw the distribution of sewing machines to 70 young men and women. The program, sponsored by Hon. Bashar Aliyu Buhari, aims to provide aspiring tailors with the tools necessary to launch their own businesses, breaking the cycle of dependency and creating sustainable income streams.

“This is more than just giving out equipment it is about investing in the dignity and potential of our youth,” said a community leader during the distribution ceremony.

“When young people have the tools and skills, they won’t need to wait for jobs they can create their own,” he said.

Further amplifying the empowerment wave in Kebbi, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, who represents Kebbi Central, distributed a wide range of items to his constituents in a high-impact program designed to stimulate grassroots economic development.

The senator’s donation included 800 sewing machines, 150 tricycles (Keke NAPEP), 114 motorcycles, 302 solar-powered deep freezers, 750 grinding machines, 500 solar water pumps, and 3,400 bags of fertilizer.

“These are not handouts they are instruments of growth. We must continue to empower our people to become self-reliant and economically productive,” Senator Aliero remarked.

In another show of grassroots mobilization, the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS) trained and empowered 500 women and youths in Birnin Kebbi. Beneficiaries of the program received vocational starter kits including sewing machines, shoe-making machines, makeup kits, and cash grants of ₦30,000 to help launch small-scale enterprises.

The foundation’s founder, Nafisa Nasir, stated that the goal is to enable vulnerable communities, especially women and young people, to become active participants in the local economy.

“We believe that by equipping them with both skills and startup tools, we can reduce poverty and dependence,” the foundation noted.

These efforts reflect a growing movement within Kebbi State to shift from welfare dependence to enterprise-led development

. By focusing on tools that support vocational training and microenterprise, the initiatives align with broader national goals of economic inclusion and sustainable development.

As more young Nigerians embrace vocational skills and entrepreneurship, Kebbi is becoming a model for grassroots empowerment where dignity meets opportunity, and potential is transformed into productivity.
