Itel Donates Hybrid Solar Power System, Launches Training Centre at University of Ibadan
Taking a bold step toward sustainable development and youth empowerment, itel Solar Energy has commissioned a hybrid solar power system and unveiled its first Solar Energy Training Centre at the University of Ibadan (UI).
The event, hosted at Nigeria’s premier university, brought together representatives from academia, student leadership, and the renewable energy sector signaling a major effort to bridge the gap between education and industry.
The newly established training centre offers a weekly program that blends theoretical instruction with hands-on experience focused on solar installation and energy system design.
This initiative is designed to equip students with the technical skills needed to thrive throughout Nigeria’s fast-growing green economy.
A representative from itel Solar Energy highlighted the company’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and human capital development.
“Our vision is to light up Nigeria’s future, not just with power, but with knowledge. This centre serves as a seed we’re planting it here at Ibadan, and we plan to replicate it across other universities,” the spokesperson stated.
Beyond technical training, the initiative provides merit-based scholarships and guaranteed job opportunities for outstanding students within itel Solar Energy’s operations particularly throughout STEM and marketing roles.
“We’re not simply training students we are preparing leaders,” the spokesperson added.
To complement this effort, the Student Union Study Hall at the University of Ibadan was renovated and modernized. The upgraded facility now features ergonomic seating, a reliable solar-powered energy system, and free device charging stations enhancing the campus learning environment.
Covenant Oladele, President of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Government, commended the initiative as a groundbreaking investment in the student body’s future.
“This goes beyond infrastructure—it is a transformational gesture toward equipping us with tools to innovate and lead within the global green energy space,” he said.
The collaboration between itel Solar Energy and the University of Ibadan is being praised as a template for effective partnerships between the private sector and higher education institutions. With plans already underway to bring similar centres to other campuses, itel’s move reflects a deep commitment to clean energy and national development.
As Nigeria continues to embrace renewable solutions, itel’s contribution at the University of Ibadan stands as a powerful symbol of what is possible when forward-thinking meets opportunity powering the minds and future of a new generation.
