Fubara Justifies Tinubu on Emergency Rule that Suspended Him

In a surprise move, suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare emergency rule in the state, saying it was a timely and wise move that saved the state from anarchy.

Speaking at a meeting with leaders of the Simplified Movement in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Fubara confirmed that peace and reconciliation processes are underway to restore all executive and legislative institutions and offices in the state.

The governor urged his supporters, Rivers people, and Nigerians to thank President Tinubu for his swift intervention, which he said prevented a worse outcome.

Fubara assured that he would return to his office soon and that democracy and good governance would be restored in the state.

“I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved, and you will come back to your offices; not just at the executive arm, but also legislative arm.

“I also believe that the strong relationships we had before will return, and we will begin to work together again, for the good and progress of the state. What is important is for us to have a forgiving spirit,” Fubara said.

Fubara also called on his supporters and the entire Rivers people to subject themselves to the peace process, which he said would enable the state to move forward. He thanked President Tinubu for his intervention and personalities across the country who appealed to him to intervene.

The governor expressed confidence that reconciliation between him and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, would happen soon, revealing that several reconciliatory meetings had been held, including some at the FCT minister’s residence.

Fubara pleaded for forgiveness from anyone who might have felt disappointed in his handling of the crisis, emphasizing that his actions are guided by a desire to protect the peace and progress of the state.

He also thanked the people of the state and all Nigerians who stood by him during the period of political turbulence, acknowledging their loyalty and prayers.

The suspended governor’s comments come as a surprise, given the circumstances surrounding his suspension.

However, his statement suggests that he is committed to finding a peaceful resolution to the crisis and working towards the restoration of democracy and good governance in Rivers State.
