Court of Appeal Validates Kano Independent Electoral Commission, LG Election

In a significant ruling, a three-judge panel led by Justice Biobele Abraham Georgewill has overturned a decision by a lower court in Kano, which had invalidated the composition of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KASIEC) and a local government election held on October 26, 2024.
The appellate court determined that the Federal High Court in Kano lacked the jurisdiction to hear cases related to state electoral bodies and their members, stating that such matters fall under the purview of the Kano State High Court.
The court’s decision was in response to appeals filed by the Kano State Attorney General, the Kano State House of Assembly, and KASIEC.
