Tinubu Marks 2 Years as President, Pledges Sustained, Prosperous Future for Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu marked his second year in office today, stating that his administration’s reforms are laying a sustainable foundation for a more prosperous future for Nigerians.

In a nationwide address, Tinubu said his Renewed Hope Agenda is working to reduce the cost of living, promote economic justice, and build a business-friendly economy that attracts investment and supports every Nigerian.

“We are laying the foundation for a more sustainable future…together, we are creating a system where prosperity is shared, and no one is left behind,” Tinubu stated.

The President commended Nigerians for their resilience and unwavering support over the past two years, saying their steadfastness has been vital in confronting the challenges inherited by his administration.

Tinubu argued that the removal of fuel subsidies and the introduction of a single foreign exchange window were necessary policies to stop the country from drifting into economic crisis.

He said these policies have started to yield positive results, with inflation easing, oil investments increasing, and fiscal performance improving.

The President announced a new strategic framework to guide Nigeria’s long-term fiscal health and fairness, including a friendlier tax environment for digital jobs and remote work, export incentives, and a National Single Window project to streamline international trade.

Tinubu also reported notable gains in Nigeria’s debt profile, including a reduction in emergency borrowing and an improvement in key ratios. He said the debt-to-GDP figure has fallen, and the debt-service-to-revenue ratio has decreased from nearly 100% in 2022 to below 40% in 2024.

On revenue policy, the President described a sweeping overhaul aimed at broadening the tax base, shielding vulnerable households, and spurring inclusive growth.

He said the tax-to-GDP ratio has already jumped from 10% to about 13.5% in a single year.

Tinubu also highlighted progress in the areas of health, education, and infrastructure, including the refurbishment of primary health centers, the expansion of national health insurance coverage, and the construction of new roads and bridges.

The President maintained that economic progress cannot be sustained without robust security and said coordination among military, police, and intelligence agencies has improved.

He urged security chiefs to remain vigilant, insisting that every Nigerian deserves a life free of fear.

Tinubu concluded by acknowledging the sacrifices made by Nigerians and expressing confidence that the worst is behind the country.

He said the real impact of his administration’s governance objectives is beginning to take hold and that the future is bright.

As the country continues to navigate its economic and security challenges, Tinubu’s address has set the tone for the next phase of his administration’s efforts to build a more prosperous and sustainable future for Nigerians.
