Tinubu Deserves Second Term in Office, Says Senator Okpebholo
Senator Monday Okpebholo, who represents Edo Central Senatorial District, has declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek a second term in office, citing what he described as the president’s bold leadership and commitment to national development.
Speaking at a political stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Okpebholo praised President Tinubu for initiating critical reforms aimed at stabilizing and growing the Nigerian economy.
According to him, the president has shown uncommon political courage by implementing decisions that previous administrations either avoided or deferred.
“President Tinubu has shown unmatched political courage and vision. He took over at a time when our economy was on the brink and insecurity was threatening to divide us. But through strategic reforms and consistent engagement, he has kept the country on a steady path,” Okpebholo stated.
The senator highlighted key reforms including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate as necessary measures to restore economic stability.
While acknowledging the short-term hardship faced by many Nigerians, he maintained that these decisions would ultimately lay the groundwork for a more sustainable and prosperous future.
“We must understand that these reforms were not politically convenient, but they were economically essential.
The removal of subsidies, painful as it may have been, was a bold move to stop the bleeding in our public finances,” he said.
Okpebholo also commended the Tinubu administration’s focus on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and its efforts to attract foreign investment.
He urged Nigerians to remain patient and continue supporting the administration, stressing that meaningful progress often takes time.
“Nations are not built overnight. If we give President Tinubu the time and support he needs, we will see the Nigeria of our dreams,” he added.
Calling for unity among political leaders, Okpebholo appealed for collaboration across party lines, insisting that national interest must take precedence over political rivalry.
He urged critics to adopt a constructive approach and support ongoing efforts to rebuild the economy and secure the country.
Though President Tinubu has yet to declare his intention to run for a second term, Senator Okpebholo’s comments are seen as one of the earliest signs of internal support for a 2027 re-election bid within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His remarks are already drawing reactions from political analysts and civil society groups, with some welcoming the endorsement and others questioning the timing in light of ongoing economic challenges.
As the country marks two years under the Tinubu administration, political discourse surrounding the 2027 general election appears to be gradually gaining momentum.
Whether or not President Tinubu seeks re-election, the growing calls for continuity suggest that the road to the next election may be paved with increasing political activity and public debate
