I’m Yet to Borrow A Dime As Kaduna Governor, Says Sani

In a rare display of fiscal discipline, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has revealed that his administration has not taken a single loan from any local or international financial institution since he assumed office two years ago.

Speaking in an interview with Kaduna-based broadcast journalists in Hausa, as part of the celebration of his two years in office, Governor Sani disclosed that several banks had approached him with loan offers, but he refused to accept them in order to avoid sinking the state into further debt.

According to the governor, his administration has been able to run efficiently by cutting the allowances and perks of top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government and Commissioners.

He revealed that these officials, who were previously earning big salaries in their former roles, had agreed to forfeit their performance bonuses and use old cars to reduce expenses.

Governor Sani also attributed his administration’s financial stability to his ability to secure grants from donor agencies, leveraging his connections and contacts built during his career as a Human Rights activist and Senator.

He specifically mentioned the Qatar Charity, which is currently constructing the Kaduna Economic City and embarking on a Mass Housing project at the Millennium City.

The governor praised President Bola Tinubu for providing assistance to Kaduna State, like other states in Nigeria, to navigate its financial challenges.

He expressed his commitment to continuing his administration’s prudent financial management, ensuring that the state’s resources are utilized efficiently and effectively.

This announcement is seen as a significant achievement for Governor Sani’s administration, which has been under pressure to deliver on its campaign promises.

The governor’s decision to avoid taking on new loans has been hailed as a bold move, which could have long-term benefits for the state’s economy.

As the state continues to celebrate Governor Sani’s two years in office, residents are eagerly awaiting the completion of the Mass Housing project, which is expected to provide affordable housing to many families.

The Kaduna Economic City project is also expected to boost the state’s economy, creating new job opportunities and stimulating economic growth.

With this development, Governor Sani has set a high standard for fiscal responsibility, which is expected to be emulated by other state governments in Nigeria.
