Convinced by Tinubu’s Sterling Performance, Labour Party’s Head of Logistics, Fabian Ozoigbo, Decamps to APC

In a significant political development ahead of the November governorship election in Anambra State, Honorable Fabian Ozoigbo, former Head of Logistics for the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential campaign, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ozoigbo, who has been a key player within the LP, announced his defection at a press briefing in Awka, where he cited President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and economic policies as major reasons for his decision.

Expressing admiration for the current administration, Ozoigbo commended President Tinubu’s handling of Nigeria’s economy, especially amid the controversial removal of the fuel subsidy earlier this year.

He remarked, “I had expected the economy to collapse irretrievably after the removal of the fuel subsidy, but that the economy is still on, though with hardships, is a puzzle to me.”

Ozoigbo’s comments reflect a recognition of the resilience of Nigeria’s economy under Tinubu’s leadership, despite widespread concerns about inflation and living costs.

The former LP chieftain criticized internal issues within the Labour Party, particularly the factional divisions that have marred the party’s cohesion since the 2023 presidential election. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s approach to legal battles, including the presidential election tribunal, which he described as contradictory and untrustworthy.

He stated, “I no longer have faith in the leadership of the Labour Party and the way they handled their challenges. It is time for me to move on and contribute to building a new Nigeria.”

Fabian Ozoigbo also voiced strong support for the APC’s governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, describing him as a grassroots-oriented leader with a reputation for philanthropy.

Ozoigbo emphasized Ukachukwu’s broad appeal across different socio-economic groups, including the middle class and general populace.

Ozoigbo’s defection marks a notable shift in Anambra’s political landscape as the state prepares for its gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

Analysts believe his move could strengthen APC’s position in a state traditionally considered a Labour Party stronghold, potentially influencing voter sentiment.

As the political temperature rises in Anambra State, Fabian Ozoigbo’s switch to the APC underscores ongoing realignments ahead of critical elections.

His praise of Tinubu’s economic policies and endorsement of the APC candidate add momentum to the party’s campaign efforts in the region.
