Oyo Assembly Dismisses Petition Against State Transport Service

The Oyo State House of Assembly has dismissed a petition written against the management of the Oyo State Pacesetter Transport Service (PTS) by the Chairman, Association of Sacked Supervendors and Investors, Mr. Ibrahim Asiwaju.

The dismissal was based on a report presented by the Chairman, House Standing Committee on Transport, Hon Adebayo Babajide, during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin on Tuesday. According to Babajide, the petition lacked merit and substantive evidence.

The Committee’s investigation revealed that the termination of the vendors’ contracts was due to their involvement in illegal activities, collusion, and fraud with drivers, which led to revenue leakages.

The introduction of a card payment system had increased revenue from N200,000 to N2 million per day, but the vendors’ collusion with drivers on cash payments led to further fraud.

The Committee recommended that the House direct the management of PTS to design and implement a well-structured organogram to establish clear reporting lines, job roles, and responsibilities of all personnel.

This is expected to eliminate ambiguity, prevent role duplication, and enhance overall productivity in the company.

The lawmakers also urged the company to adopt the use of contract staff for improved efficiency and productivity, enabling it to expand its services from inter and intra-city routes to interstate routes.

Additionally, they recommended that the Executive Arm of Government increase the subvention to PTS to support its subsidized services to citizens of the state.

The Committee’s findings also revealed that the activities of PTS are in line with the guidelines of its operations and are subject to the approval of the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

The lawmakers maintained that the company is responsible for the payment of pensions and gratuities of its retirees and staff salaries.

In his recommendation, Babajide stated that the petition submitted by Mr. Ibrahim Asiwaju should be dismissed for lacking in merit and credible evidence.

He also recommended that the use of vendors for revenue generation be terminated due to misconduct and that the terms of engagement of contract staff be redefined.

The Oyo State House of Assembly has therefore dismissed the petition against the management of the Pacesetter Transport Service, citing lack of merit and substantive evidence.

The lawmakers have also urged the company to restructure its workforce and operate strictly in accordance with its conditions of service.
