Newness Without Depth Is Emptiness, Says Gaise Baba

Nigerian Afro-fusion gospel artist Gaise Baba has sounded the alarm over what he describes as a growing crisis of originality in today’s music industry. In a recent appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, the singer declared that the industry is “struggling for newness,” urging artists to go beyond surface-level trends and embrace deeper, more meaningful expression.

“It’s not the genre. Depth is depth. The world is scrambling for newness, but newness without depth is emptiness,” Gaise Baba emphasized.

Born Akinade Ibuoye, Gaise Baba has carved a niche for himself by fusing African rhythms with spiritually grounded lyrics, bridging the gap between cultural relevance and Christian conviction.

His latest single, No Turning Back, has garnered widespread attention especially after a powerful remix featuring worship revivalist Lawrence Oyor.

Described by many as both a spiritual anthem and a sonic innovation, No Turning Back blends Afrobeat energy with a message of unwavering faith.

“This song is not just a vibe; it’s a declaration,” Gaise said in a separate interview, reinforcing his belief that music should shape hearts, not just charts.

But Gaise Baba’s influence extends beyond the studio. Through his LightOut initiative, he has reached over 15,000 students across Lagos with gospel-centered concerts and mentorship programs aimed at instilling purpose and identity in young people.

In 2023, he launched ARAMANDA, an urban gospel music festival designed to platform Christian creatives working outside traditional church settings.

At a time when the global music landscape is being reshaped by artificial intelligence, mass production, and viral trends, Gaise Baba’s voice is cutting through the noise with a message of intentionality.

“There’s a hunger for something real. People want more than just what’s catchy they want what’s true,” he said.

As the conversation about originality and artistic integrity continues, Gaise Baba remains a compelling voice for a generation seeking not just a new sound, but a deeper one.
