Lagos Government Reports Speed Darlington to NAPTIP
The Lagos State Government has formally reported Nigerian singer, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over allegations of raping a minor.
This move follows a viral video that surfaced online, in which the controversial entertainer appeared to confess during an Instagram Live session to having sexual relations with an underage girl.
The video, which has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation on social media, prompted immediate reaction from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).
In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the DSVA acknowledged public concerns regarding the footage and affirmed its commitment to seeking justice.
“The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) is aware of the disturbing video currently circulating online, in which a popular entertainer allegedly admits to engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor,” the statement read.
Although the entertainer did not disclose the exact location of the incident during his broadcast, the DSVA emphasized that its legal authority extends only within Lagos State.
Nevertheless, the agency stated it had escalated the matter to NAPTIP, which holds national jurisdiction over cases of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
“While the individual in question did not specify the location of the incident during the Instagram Live session, we must clarify that the DSVA’s jurisdiction is limited to Lagos State.
“However, we have formally notified the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to investigate and pursue possible prosecution,” the statement continued.
The agency reiterated the Lagos State government’s zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of sexual and gender-based violence and called on anyone with relevant information to come forward.
“We appreciate the vigilance of citizens who brought this to our attention and urge the public to continue reporting such cases through the appropriate legal channels,” the DSVA added.
As of the time of reporting, Speed Darlington has not issued any official response or clarification regarding the video. NAPTIP has yet to release a public statement on the matter.
The incident has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of laws protecting minors and sparked fresh debate about the role of social media in exposing alleged criminal behavior.
