Felix Agu Elated about Invitation to Super Eagles

Newly invited Super Eagles defender Felix Agu has expressed his excitement and pride at being called up to the Nigerian national team, stating that donning the jersey would be the “highest honour” of his career.

The 25-year-old Werder Bremen full-back, who received his maiden national team call-up ahead of the 2025 Unity Cup tournament in London, spoke to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about his experience so far with the team.

Agu, who has previously featured for Germany at U-21 level, said that accepting the invitation to switch his international allegiance to Nigeria was an easy decision for him.

“It has been one and a half days with all the guys, and it has been very good. Everyone accepted me well. We’ve had one training session, and it’s nice to be here. I’m happy to be called up, and I’m enjoying my time,” he said.

The defender, who has Nigerian roots, stated that representing the country is a great way to connect with his heritage. “Nigeria is like the biggest African nation, and it’s like, in the world, anywhere you go, you meet Nigerians. To represent the country is the biggest honour, so I’m very happy,” he said.

Agu also revealed his love for Nigerian cuisine, particularly fufu and egusi soup, as well as jollof rice with plantain. “I like to eat fufu and egusi soup, I love jollof rice with plantain. I tried to get it as much as possible, wherever I can get it,” he said.

The Werder Bremen defender also spoke about his time at the German club, where he has been playing for five years. “It was like a time of ups and downs. We were relegated once, got promoted right away again, but these few seasons, we’ve been taking it step by step,” he said.

Agu had a impressive season in the just concluded Bundesliga, scoring three goals in 22 matches, his highest tally in the German topflight. He will be hoping to bring his form to the Super Eagles as they prepare for the 2025 Unity Cup tournament in London.

The Nigeria Football Federation has expressed delight at Agu’s decision to switch his allegiance to Nigeria, and fans will be eagerly waiting to see him in action for the Super Eagles. With his skills and experience, Agu is expected to be a valuable addition to the team.
