Be Real, Stay Seen: Davido Shares Fans Preference for Him

Afrobeats sensation Davido believes the secret to his social media dominance isn’t just the music it’s authenticity.

In a recent interview on BET Talks, the award-winning artist explained that fans are drawn to him because he doesn’t put on a front. While many artists carefully curate a perfect image, Davido has always chosen to let people into his real life unfiltered and unscripted.

“I’d post myself chilling at home in slippers, just doing normal stuff. People connected with that because it was genuine,” he said.

Davido, who spent part of his early life in the United States, says that exposure helped him feel more comfortable sharing personal moments.

He believes that openness is something many African artists shy away from.

“Some of them don’t want to show their everyday life. They want everything to look perfect all the time,” he said. “But I’ve always felt like being myself is enough.”

He noted that when he moved back to Nigeria, he noticed many celebrities seemed overly concerned about appearances. His approach? Keep it simple. Don’t overthink it. Just be yourself.

“I still see myself as a regular guy. When it’s time to party, I go all out. But outside of that, I stay true to who I am,” he added.
