Afenifere Appoints Olu Falae National Executive Committee Chairman

In a move aimed at repositioning the Pan Yoruba Socio-Political Group, Afenifere, has appointed former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the Olu of Ilu-Abo, Oba Olu Falae, as the chairman of its National Executive Committee.

The appointment was made by the group’s national leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, during the group’s monthly meeting held at his country home in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

According to the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, Oba Falae’s appointment is meant to “reinvigorate the organisation with a view to ensuring that the House of Oduduwa is back on track to project the Yoruba mandate.”

Oba Falae, a former SGF, brings a wealth of experience to the position, having held several important offices in the past.

The meeting, which was attended by members of the group’s national executive committee, also deliberated on various challenges facing the nation, including insecurity, inflation, and the need for restructuring. In a communiqué issued after the meeting,

Afenifere reiterated its longstanding advocacy for the restructuring of the country, stating that it is the most potent means of tackling the challenges facing the nation.

“We are therefore calling on the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to set the machinery in motion to restructure the country as a matter of urgency.

“We urge the present administration to make restructuring one of the major policies in its third year in office,” the communiqué read.

The group also expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the country, citing the recent abduction and killing of the All Progressive Congress chairman in Ondo state, Mr. Nelson Adegboyigiwa, and the Obalohun of Okoloke in Kogi State, Oba James Ogunyanda Ilufemiloye. Afenifere reiterated its call for the immediate take-off of state police, noting that insecurity is becoming endemic due to complicity at the political, military, and community levels.

In a congratulatory message to President Bola Tinubu on the second anniversary of his administration, Afenifere expressed hope that the administration will use the remaining period of its tenure to more effectively address issues bothering Nigerians.

The group also noted the reports by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on inflation but emphasized that food inflation and transport costs are still very burdensome,

urging the federal government to take urgent actions to ease the situation.
