Nenadi Backs Obi for 2027 Presidential Contest, Hints Labour Party Pro Coalition
The National Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has given its full endorsement to the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to participate in the ongoing coalition talks aimed at defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The Labour Party, in a statement signed by Senator Usman’s media aide, Ken Asogwa, expressed its wholehearted welcome to the coalition movement driven by the Nigerian people, stating that it is a necessary step towards rescuing the country from the failed administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party also reaffirmed Peter Obi’s unequivocal right to contest the 2027 elections under its platform, should the ongoing coalition efforts fail to materialize.
This move is seen as a significant boost to Obi’s chances of contesting the 2027 election, and a clear indication that the Labour Party is committed to supporting his candidacy.
Senator Usman criticized some suspended members of the Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, for kicking against Obi’s participation in the coalition movement.
According to her, their actions are misguided and do not reflect the true interests of the party or the Nigerian people.
“The Labour Party is committed to doing what is best for Nigeria, and if that means working with other parties to defeat the APC, then so be it
. “We will not be swayed by the selfish interests of a few individuals who are more concerned with their own power struggles than with the welfare of the Nigerian people,” Senator Usman said.
The endorsement of Peter Obi’s participation in the coalition talks is a significant development in the lead-up to the 2027 election.
It signals a major shift in the political landscape, as the Labour Party and other opposition parties begin to coalesce around a common goal of defeating the APC.
