Renowned individuals have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to society at the 25th anniversary celebration of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
The institution, located in Igbariam, Anambra State, conferred honorary doctorates on several distinguished personalities, including Nonye Soludo, the wife of the state’s governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
Mrs Soludo’s award of Doctor of Public Health and Nutrition was in acknowledgement of her groundbreaking “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative”, which has been instrumental in promoting wellness and nutrition in the state.
Other notable awardees included Ada Chukwudozie, the South East Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria; Igwe Alex Onyido, the traditional ruler of Ogidi Kingdom; and prominent businessmen Chidozie Mbanefo and Chief Christopher Ndubuisi.
According to Professor Kate Omenugha, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, the honorary doctorates, dubbed the ‘Ojukwu Legacy Award’, aim to encourage individuals who have made significant strides in various fields.
The ceremony, which took place at the university’s Igbariam Campus, was attended by a plethora of dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Somtochukwu Udeze, and House of Representatives member Paschal Agbodike.

He also commended former Governor Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju, who founded the university, and expressed his desire to immortalise the late governor’s legacy.
