NCC Mandates Telecom Operators to Notify Users on Major Service Disruptions
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a directive mandating all telecommunications operators to notify their subscribers of any major service disruptions that could affect connectivity or access to services.
The NCC emphasized that prompt and transparent communication during outages is essential to protect consumer interests and foster trust in the telecom sector.
The Commission warned that failure to comply with the new directive would attract regulatory sanctions.
“The NCC considers it vital for telecom consumers to be adequately informed when there are service issues affecting the quality or availability of telecom services.
“Operators are now required to issue timely alerts via SMS, social media, or other appropriate channels whenever significant disruptions occur,” the statement read.
This move comes in response to increased complaints from subscribers who have faced sudden outages without explanation. The directive is part of a broader push by the NCC to strengthen consumer protection and enhance service delivery standards across the industry.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the move, saying it will improve transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s telecom ecosystem.
The NCC reiterated its commitment to ensuring that operators uphold the highest standards of service and urged consumers to report cases of non-compliance.
