Wike Directs Sealing of PDP National Secretariat, other Defaulting Properties in FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed that the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja be sealed off, effective Monday.

This development comes just days before the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled to hold on Tuesday.

According to sources, Wike’s directive is aimed at preventing any form of gathering or meeting at the secretariat, as the party’s leadership crisis deepens.

The minister’s order has sparked widespread concern among party members, who fear that the move may be a ploy to disrupt the NEC meeting and further destabilize the party.

As a result of the directive, all staff and visitors will be barred from entering the secretariat premises, effective Monday.

Security personnel are expected to be deployed to the area to ensure compliance with the minister’s order.

The PDP has been embroiled in a leadership crisis since the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate, with some party stakeholders, including Wike, calling for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

The NEC meeting, which is expected to discuss the party’s preparations for the 2023 general elections, may now be in jeopardy, as the lockdown of the secretariat threatens to disrupt the party’s activities.

Reacting to the development, a PDP spokesperson described Wike’s directive as “unwarranted and provocative,” adding that the party would explore all available options to ensure that the NEC meeting holds as scheduled.

“This is a clear attempt to undermine the party’s leadership and disrupt our activities. We will not be intimidated by such antics, and we will do everything possible to ensure that our NEC meeting holds as planned,” the spokesperson said.

The development has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern about the implications of Wike’s directive on the party’s future.
