Teenage Mother in Anambra Stabs Her Baby in the Throat to Hide Pregnancy
A teenage mother, Chinwendu Okoro, has been arrested for stabbing her newborn baby boy in the throat and dumping his body in a bid to hide her pregnancy from her family.
According to reports, Chinwendu gave birth to the baby boy on May 22, in a secret location, after hiding her pregnancy from her family and friends.
However, in a desperate attempt to conceal her situation, she allegedly stabbed the newborn baby in the throat and abandoned his body.
Fortunately, the baby was found alive, but in a critical condition, and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention. Chinwendu, who is also being treated at the hospital, is being held by the police for questioning.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing outrage and sadness at the teenage mother’s actions.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter, and Chinwendu is expected to face charges for attempted murder and child abandonment.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Echeng Echeng, confirmed the incident, stating that the police received a distress call from a resident who found the abandoned baby. “We are investigating the matter, and the teenage mother is currently in our custody. We will ensure that justice is served, and the baby receives the necessary care and support,” he said.
Chinwendu’s family has expressed shock and disappointment at her actions, stating that they had no knowledge of her pregnancy. “We are still trying to come to terms with what happened. We had no idea she was pregnant, and we are shocked that she would resort to such a drastic measure,” said Chinwendu’s mother.
The incident has highlighted the need for greater support and resources for teenage mothers and pregnant women in Nigeria, particularly in rural areas where access to healthcare and social services may be limited.
The baby’s condition is currently stable, and he is receiving medical attention at the hospital. The police are continuing their investigation, and Chinwendu is expected to appear in court soon to face charges.
This incident is a tragic reminder of the challenges faced by teenage mothers and the importance of providing them with support, guidance, and resources to ensure they can care for themselves and their babies.
