Nollywood Actress’s Daughter Recounts Harrowing Experience of Being Sold into Prostitution in Mali

Adeola Omotoso, the daughter of Nollywood actress Jumoke George, has shared her harrowing experience of being sold into prostitution in Mali.
Adeola, who was recently reunited with her mother after being found in the West African country, recounted her ordeal in a recent interview.
According to Adeola, her troubles began when she met someone who offered to help her travel to Mali for work. The individual, who claimed to know someone who owned a pharmacy in Mali, promised Adeola a job opportunity in the country.
Without informing her family, Adeola agreed to travel to Mali, embarking on a four-day journey by road through Cotonou, Togo, Ghana, and other countries.
However, upon arriving in Bamako, the capital city of Mali, Adeola’s expectations were brutally shattered.
She was informed by her contact that she had been “bought” and would be required to work as a prostitute to repay a debt of 1.5 million CFA francs. Adeola was shocked and confused, and she refused to comply with the demands of her captor, who claimed to be her “madam.”
As a result of her refusal, Adeola’s phone and travel documents were confiscated, leaving her stranded and vulnerable. She was subsequently taken to a brothel, where she was expected to begin her work as a prostitute. However, Adeola’s determination to escape her predicament led her to seek help from a sympathetic stranger, who assisted her in finding a job as a food vendor.
Adeola’s experience in Mali was marked by trauma and hardship. She witnessed the deaths of several Nigerians who had been forced into prostitution, and she was filled with shame and regret for leaving her home in Nigeria.
Despite her desire to return home, Adeola felt ashamed to contact her family, fearing that they would be disappointed in her.
In a remarkable turn of events, Adeola was eventually reunited with her mother, thanks to the efforts of unknown individuals who helped her return to Nigeria.
Her story serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of human trafficking and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
Adeola’s experience also highlights the need for greater awareness and education about the risks of human trafficking, particularly among young people.
Her bravery in sharing her story will undoubtedly help to raise awareness about this critical issue and inspire others to take action against human trafficking.
In a statement, Adeola’s mother, Jumoke George, expressed her gratitude for her daughter’s safe return, saying, “I am thankful to God for bringing my daughter back home safely. I urge all parents to be vigilant and ensure that their children are aware of the dangers of human trafficking.”
