Lamido Dismisses APC as Never Committed to Good Governance
Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has launched a scathing attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the party as never having been serious about governance.
Lamido, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the statement in an interview with journalists in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
According to him, the APC has consistently demonstrated a lack of seriousness in its approach to governance, and has failed to deliver on its promises to Nigerians.
“The APC has never been a serious political party. From the outset, it has been clear that the party is more interested in grabbing power than in serving the people. They have no coherent vision for the country, and their policies have been disastrous for Nigeria,” Lamido said.
Lamido cited the current state of the economy, the rising insecurity, and the lack of infrastructure development as evidence of the APC’s ineptitude.
“Look at the state of our economy today. The APC promised to create jobs and stimulate economic growth, but instead, they have presided over a period of unprecedented hardship and suffering for Nigerians. The party’s handling of the economy has been nothing short of disastrous,” he said.
The former governor also criticized the APC’s approach to security, saying that the party’s policies have exacerbated the insecurity crisis in the country.
“The APC’s handling of the security situation has been woefully inadequate. They have failed to protect Nigerians from the ravages of Boko Haram, banditry, and other forms of insecurity. The party’s lack of seriousness on this issue is staggering,” Lamido said.
Lamido’s comments are likely to generate controversy, given the APC’s dominance of Nigerian politics in recent years. However, the former governor’s criticism of the party is not surprising, given his long-standing opposition to the APC and its policies.
The APC has not yet responded to Lamido’s comments, but it is likely that the party will issue a statement defending its record and criticizing the former governor’s remarks.
In a related development, the PDP has welcomed Lamido’s comments, saying that they reflect the views of many Nigerians who are disillusioned with the APC’s performance.
“We agree with Governor Lamido’s assessment of the APC. The party has failed to deliver on its promises, and its policies have caused immense suffering for Nigerians. We believe that it is time for a change, and we are working hard to provide a credible alternative to the APC in the next elections,” said a PDP spokesperson.
