Arewa Youths Warn Against Representing Kyari over NNPCL Stewardship

The Arewa Forum, a prominent socio-cultural organization in Northern Nigeria, has risen to the defense of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, amidst growing criticism of his leadership.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the forum described Kyari as “a true northerner” who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and commitment to the development of the region.

According to the forum, Kyari’s tenure as NNPC boss has been marked by significant achievements, including the successful implementation of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act, and the promotion of indigenous participation in the oil and gas sector.

The Arewa Forum’s defense of Kyari comes on the heels of recent criticism from some quarters, accusing him of mismanaging the nation’s oil resources and failing to address the perennial fuel scarcity in the country.

However, the forum dismissed these criticisms as “unfounded and mischievous”, arguing that Kyari has worked tirelessly to reform the NNPC and ensure transparency in the oil and gas sector.

“He’s a true northerner who has made us proud with his exceptional leadership skills and commitment to the development of our region. We will not stand idly by while some individuals attempt to tarnish his reputation with baseless allegations,” the forum said in a statement.

The Arewa Forum’s endorsement of Kyari is seen as a significant boost to his leadership, and a testament to his popularity among northerners. The forum’s chairman, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, praised Kyari for his “visionary leadership” and “unwavering commitment” to the development of the north.
