Aiyedatiwa Knows Fate June 4 as Ondo Election Tribunal Delivers Judgement

The Ondo State Election Petitions Tribunal has announced that it will deliver its judgment on June 4 in the suits challenging the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in last year’s governorship election.
The tribunal, led by Chairman, Justice Benson Ogbu, made the announcement after all parties adopted their final written addresses.
The judgment is expected to bring an end to the prolonged legal battle over the outcome of the election, which saw Governor Aiyedatiwa emerge victorious with a landslide win in all 18 local government areas.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Agboola Ajayi, were among the first to file a petition at the tribunal, expressing dissatisfaction with the results of the polls.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) also filed separate petitions, citing various grounds for nullification of the election results.
At the heart of the petitions is the allegation that the election did not comply with the Electoral Act as amended.
The petitioners claim that the electoral process was marred by irregularities and malpractices, which they argue rendered the outcome invalid.
However, Governor Aiyedatiwa’s counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun, has urged the tribunal to dismiss the petitions, citing a lack of merit and evidence of electoral malpractice. Olanipekun argued that the petitioners failed to provide sufficient proof to support their claims, and that the election was conducted in a free and fair manner.
The June 4 judgment date has been eagerly anticipated by political stakeholders and residents of Ondo State, who are eager to see the outcome of the tribunal’s deliberations. The ruling is expected to have significant implications for the state’s political landscape, and could potentially shape the course of future elections in the state.
As the tribunal prepares to deliver its verdict, tensions are running high in the state. Supporters of Governor Aiyedatiwa are confident that the tribunal will uphold his victory, while those backing the petitioners are hopeful that the election results will be nullified.
